2022 Maserati Grecale Makes Spy Debut With Lots Of Camo, Quad Exhaust Pipes

Subsequent to the blurry teaser pics released by Maserati earlier this year, the Grecale has now made its spy photo debut.

This prototype was snapped next to other pre-production vehicles from Stellantis, having its body wrapped in a special camo with ‘Grecale’ branding and the Trident brand’s badge.

Looking quite different than the bigger Levante up front, the Grecale has larger headlights, more prominent fenders and a rather aggressively shaped hood, whose design is partially hidden by a plastic hump. The rear end is dominated by a pair of slim taillights, probably separated by chrome trim, and quad exhaust pipes.

One of the spy shots reveals the top design of the dashboard, with contrast stitching and a round air vent. Since the infotainment screen is not visible at all, Maserati probably chose to incorporate it into the dashboard rather than opting for a free-floating design. Occupants will be treated to leather upholstery and other premium materials, and things such as the over-the-air updates (OTA), smartphone integration, a wireless charging pad and ambient lighting should be included as well.

The Grecale will be based on the Giorgio platform and will be a more luxurious alternative to the similarly-sized Alfa Romeo Stelvio. It’s expected to borrow some powertrains from its “cousin”, such as the 272 HP 2.0-liter four-pot. The top-of-the-line variant is believed to get a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with over 500 HP but not the automaker’s 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 as it will be available exclusively in the MC20 supercar. The Grecale is expected to come as standard with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive will be an option, at least on lower trim levels, while power will be channeled to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Hybrid and perhaps even electric versions could follow.
