With the release of F9 coming on June 25, it will be one of the first blockbuster movies released since the pandemic began. Universal Studios is welcoming fans back with a series of free Fast Friday showings.

The announcement came via Entertainment Weekly, on April 23, followed by a new trailer narrated by Vin Diesel, one of the series’ biggest names. The video welcomes people back to communal spaces like movie theaters and Universal doubtless hopes that the timing will give the movie a post-pandemic bump.

“After staying apart for so long, it’s time to come back together,” said Diesel. “To laugh, to cheer, we’re ready to make you believe again. Because nobody does a comeback like the movies.”

In order to really boost Fast fans’ excitement, Universal has organized a series of free screenings of the Fast & Furious movies at chains like AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. The series will start at 500 theaters around the US and will eventually be hosted by 900 theaters.

“The Fast films are all about family, and Universal wanted to find a way to thank our huge family of Fast fans around the country for their passion and loyalty over the past 20 years,” Jim Orr, Universal’s president of domestic theatrical distribution, told EW. “We’re grateful to our theater partners for their help in making this screening series possible and we are delighted to welcome audiences back to theaters to experience the wild Fast ride all over again. And we cannot wait to blow everyone’s minds with the release of F9 on June 25.

According to CNN, more than 42% of the U.S. population has gotten one round of Covid-19 vaccines and nearly 30% is fully vaccinated. The number of people missing their second dose of vaccines has started rising, though.

Authorities say that the second 50% of the population will take longer to vaccinate than the first 50%. Experts like Dr. Anthony Fauci, meanwhile, estimates that between 70-80% of the country needs to be immune to Covid-19 before its spread can be effectively suppressed. Please consider your family before you consider the Fast & Furious family.
