Less than a month after the big reveal, Volkswagen has announced that it will start accepting reservations for the 2021 Polo in its home market in June.
The facelifted subcompact hatchback can be ordered in ‘Fresh’ base specification, at an introductory price of less than €16,000 (equal to $19,325). By comparison, two of its biggest rivals, the Ford Fiesta and Renault Clio, are available from €14,350 ($17,333) and €14,100 ($17,031) respectively in Germany.
Boasting updated styling, with new bumpers, headlights and taillights, the 2021 Polo is equipped with the latest generation of the MIB3 infotainment system, with eSIM. The entry-level model also gets the brand’s digital cockpit, multi-function steering wheel and air conditioning, while the lane departure warning and front assist with city emergency braking and pedestrian detection will aid drivers on their daily commute.
At launch, the facelifted Polo will be available in the base, Life, Style and R-Line trim levels. The two mid grades are already listed on the company’s website in Germany from €20,175 ($24,368) and €22,475 ($27,146) respectively. The Polo Life will be offered with steel wheels, front and rear parking sensors, height-adjustable front seats and USB-C sockets. The Style will bring 15-inch alloy wheels, LED matrix headlights, LED DRLs, cornering lights, ambient lighting inside, heated front seats and smartphone integration.
Three engines will be available at first, the 95 PS (94 HP / 70 kW) and 110 PS (109 HP / 81 kW) TSI petrol units, and the 90 PS (88 HP / 66 kW) natural gas mill. The lineup will eventually grow to include more variants, including the 2021 Polo GTI that’s due in June.
