Orders for Cupra’s latest performance hatch are open, with the Leon receiving a new addition of a 245PS (242 hp) model. Available in two trim levels, the new addition to the Leon range offers a cheaper alternative to the e-hybrid and 300PS (296 hp) range-topper.

For those who don’t already know, Cupra was founded in 2018 and is the performance-oriented sub-brand of VW Group-owned Spanish automaker SEAT. The brand was inspired by SEAT’s many years of competing in rallies and touring car racing.

The Spanish hatch will feature a new power output of 245PS from its VW-sourced 2.0L TSI DSG-auto powertrain, making it a more affordable option. The Leon’s new Powertrain will produce up to 370Nm of torque, pushing the hot hatch from a standstill to 62mph (100km/h) in 6.4 seconds, and topping out at 155mph (250 km/h). Cupra will offer the Leon in VZ1 and VZ2 trims, priced at £31,460 and £32,695 respectively in the UK. In comparison, the 300PS version in VZ2 trim starts from £35,030.

The VZ1 comes with 18-inch black and silver alloys and black brake calipers, aggressive sport bumpers on each end, with a rear diffuser and oval quad exhaust pipes. Inside the cabin, the improved interior will feature unique chrome and copper detailing, inclusive of a flat-bottomed perforated leather steering wheel coupled with gearshift panels and a set of sports bucket seats.

The improved Leon doesn’t fall short technologically and is equipped with a broad list of cool tech which includes a digital cockpit housing a 10-inch infotainment system with navigation and complete smartphone integration compatible with Mirror Link, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto along with four USB-C charging ports.

Also included are illuminated door sills and wraparound ambient lighting, three-zone climate control, keyless start and entry, a reverse camera as well as cruise control. The slightly pricier VZ2 will have 19 inches machined black and silver alloys and “dynamic chassis control” for improved ride and driving dynamics.
