Canadian authorities have identified the drivers of a Tesla Model 3 and Toyota Supra that were spotted street racing in Vancouver.

Earlier in the week, a video was posted to Instagram showing the Tesla racing a matte grey Supra from the lights. The two cars accelerate aggressively down the street and at one stage, just after exceeding 100 km/h (62 mph), the driver of the Tesla crosses onto the opposite side of the road to overtake a white Hyundai.

The two drivers continue to accelerate and while the driver of the Supra hits the brakes at around 140 km/h (87 mph), the driver of the Tesla keeps the throttle pinned and crosses onto the opposite side of the road for a second time, this time to overtake a Honda Civic while traveling at over 160 km/h (100 mph). The video cuts out while the Tesla is traveling at an indicated 172 km/h (107 mph).

While the Instagram video was later deleted, it was shared on Twitter by local Sgt. Mark Christensen who quickly confirmed that the driver of the Tesla had been identified. Christensen added that police were also working to determine who was driving the Toyota Supra.

Shortly afterwards, CTV News reports that authorities had successfully identified the driver of the Toyota Supra.

A police spokesperson has confirmed that as the investigation is still in its early stages, it has yet to be determined what charges could be laid against the drivers involved.
