The Genesis G70 and Ford Mustang are not direct rivals but over in Australia, the folk at Motor decided to pit the two against each other for a series of performance tests.
The tests were conducted in wet conditions, not ideal for two powerful cars that send all of their power through the rear wheels. Nevertheless, the two put on quite a good showing.

First, the specs. Powering the Ford Mustang GT is, of course, a 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 pumping out 455 hp and 410 lb-ft (556 Nm) of torque. This engine certainly has the Genesis and its 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 beat in terms of its sound and with its figures, as the G70’s engine is capped at 367 hp and 376 lb-ft (510 Nm).
During the first race, the duo crossed the finish line at almost exactly the same time as the driver of the Mustang missed a shift. However, in the second race and with the launch control systems of both cars enabled, the Mustang managed to edge ahead and take a small lead, although perhaps not be as much as you may expect considering its horsepower and torque advantages.
A ‘street start’ race is then held between the pair where they are left in their normal driving modes with the traction control systems enabled. The Genesis was able to manage its wheel spin very well and was much more efficient than the Mustang and claimed victory.
