The first 2022 Acura NSX Type S to be available outside of Japan has sold for $1.1 million at an auction over the weekend.

All funds from the auction will benefit charity, including a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) education program for underserved youth nationwide in partnership with the Center of Science and Industry (COSI).

The car presented during the auction was one of 70 examples to be finished in Gothan Gray Matte Metallic but the winning bidder will be able to custom order the car to their exact specifications. VIN #001 also comes with the optional Lightweight Package, a $13,000 option.

The owner, by the way, is none other than owner of Hendrick Motorsports and the Hendrick Automotive Group, Rick Hendrick who has a history of buying the first examples of various performance cars. In fact, Hendrick already owns the first 2020 Corvette Stingray, 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition, first 2017 Acura NSX, and the first 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE.

Immediately making the NSX Type S stand out from the regular model is the revised styling. It includes a more angular front bumper with larger intakes and a more pronounced splitter. There are also new forged wheels, widened fenders, carbon fiber side sills, and an overhauled rear end with a carbon fiber diffuser and a large lip spoiler.

Power continues to come courtesy of a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with three electric motors, although the Type S has 600 hp and 492 lb-ft (667 Nm) compared to the 573 hp and 476 lb-ft (645 Nm) of the regular NSX.
