The keys to the very first 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition in the U.S. have just been handed over to the car’s owner, who won it through an Omaze competition.

Omaze and American Honda Motor Co. teamed up to give away the first Civic Type R Limited Edition, chassis 001, through a sweepstakes. The competition included entries from more than 41,000 Civic Type R fans and raised over $500,000 to support the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) through grants from CAF America that will benefit a host of programs supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities and their students.

A Honda fan by the name of Zander L. was the lucky winner. He also won a track experience at the Honda Proving Ground with Honda IndyCar driver Colton Herta to brush up on his driving skills.

“We’re grateful to everyone who helped us raise over a half-million dollars in grants to support the Thurgood Marshall College Fund through the Honda Civic Type R Omaze sweepstakes,” vice president of the Corporate Social Responsibility and Inclusion & Diversity Divisions from American Honda Motor Co, Yvette Hunsicker said. “This is truly a win-win result, with a loyal Honda fan winning our pinnacle Civic Type R and HBCUs receiving much-needed assistance at a time when the students and schools need extra support due to the community impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“As a diehard Honda fan and past Civic owner, winning the very first Civic Type R Limited Edition in the U.S. is beyond my wildest dreams, and having Colton Herta personally guide me around the track was one of the greatest experiences of my life,” added Zander. “I’m so grateful that I took a chance and entered – this is truly once-in-a-lifetime.”

Various upgrades have been made to the Limited Edition variant of the Civic Type R. For example, it is painted in Phoenix Yellow and has lightweight forged BBS wheels wrapped in Michelin Cup 2 tires. It also has less sound deadening and ditches the cargo cover, rear heated ducts, and rear wiper mechanism.
