Nissan e-POWER Sylphy Previewed Before Chinese Launch

The Nissan Sylphy is the latest car from the automaker to be equipped with its innovative e-POWER powertrain.

Previewed through a handful of photos, the e-POWER variant of the Sylphy will soon hit the Chinese market. Its launch is part of Nissan’s plan to roll out six e-POWER models across China by 2025.

Nissan’s e-POWER system combines an electric motor, a petrol engine, and a high-output battery. Distinguishing Nissan’s powertrain from most other hybrids is the fact that the electric motor powers the front wheels while the petrol engine is only used to charge the vehicle’s battery when necessary.

The e-POWER technology was first introduced in Japan’s Note and is also used by the Kicks and Serena. Nissan hasn’t released many details about the Sylphy’s powertrain, other than stating that it will have 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque and consume just 3.9 liters per 100 km (60 U.S. mpg).

“The launch of the Nissan e-POWER Sylphy in China represents the determination of Nissan to introduce cutting-edge technologies in this core market, to accelerate the company’s vision for electrified mobility and the achievement of China’s carbon neutrality goals,” vice president of Dongfeng Motor Co. and managing director of Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company, Takeshi Yamaguchi, said in a statement. “e-POWER is designed to bring a whole new driving experience to customers in China in their pursuit for high-quality mobility in the era of electrification.”
