Sleeping in cars is not uncommon in Japan, where taxi-operator Daiwa Motor Transportation in collaboration with relaxation drink brand Chill Out launched the #SleepingTaxi. The Toyota JPN Taxi-based vehicle was roaming the streets of Tokyo for a limited time between the 30th of August until the 4th of September, offering a free-of-charge relaxing experience to people.

For those who are not familiar with purpose-built vehicles in Japan, the Toyota JPN Taxi was unveiled in production form in 2017, featuring a tall body, a spacious cabin, and a 1.5-liter hybrid LPG powertrain. This vehicle served as the perfect base for the #SleepingTaxi with a series of modifications.

Stepping inside this taxi after a hard-working day you will find everything you need in order to relax. A portable table with plenty of relaxation drinks (the opposite of energy drinks), plants behind the screen-covered side windows, ambient lighting, a screen mounted on the front seat, a charger for your phone and most importantly a comfortable pillow.

Given that the Toyota JPN Taxi has huge legroom, it’s not hard for someone to find a relaxing seating position. Gentle music playing through the speakers and calming videos on the screen help passengers forget their worries while a disposable sleep mask is offered for those with sensitive eyes.

We are not sure if we prefer to spend our sleeping time inside a moving vehicle instead of lying on a comfortable bed. Having said that, citizens of Tokyo made good use of this promotional service since it was completely free of charge, offering a nice experience outside of the daily routine.
