Did you ever want a rugged 4×4 LCV chassis for your next expedition vehicle project? Well, take a look at this. Torsus, a company based in Slovakia, has unveiled the Terrastorm Chassis which is based on the VW Crafter and Man TGE vans and as the name suggests, it gets a series of upgrades making it suitable for heavy-duty off-road use.

Terrastorm is available in three different versions – 70 (3.5t), 100 (5t), and 110 (5.5t). It comes with a single cab (2+1 seats) or a double cab (6+1 seats) configuration, in two wheelbase lengths of 3,640 mm (143.3 inches) and 4,490 mm (176.7 inches), measuring 5,996 mm (236 inches) and 6,846 mm (269.5 inches) accordingly.

The chassis can be paired to a Euro 6 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine available in two power output variants. The entry-level produces 138 hp (103 kW / 140 PS) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) of torque and the most powerful produces 174 hp (130 kW / 177 PS) and 410 Nm (302 lb-ft) of torque. Both are mated to either a manual or automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels with the help of the 4Motion system and a locking rear differential.

Terrastorm comes equipped with an off-road suspension allowing for increased capability off the beaten track. At the front, it has McPherson struts and Bilstein B6 shock absorbers with Ironman 4×4 Adjustable Camber bolts. At the rear, it uses a combination of leaf springs with Ironman 4×4 Load Plus and Profender Dakar shock absorbers with remote auxiliary reservoirs extended axle stroke.

The beefed-up suspension and the 17-inch BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires result in a respectable ground clearance of 250 mm (9.8 inches), allowing a 26°approach angle and a 20° departure angle. There is also full bottom skid protection for the major mechanical components by Duraluminium, wider front fenders, side aluminum steps, an optional metal bull bar at the front, a winch capable of towing up to 5,500 kg, LED lights, plus a scratch-resistant coating on the lower body panels.

Torsus says that the 4×4 Terrastorm chassis is designed for “Farming and Agriculture, Mining Support, Service and Repair, Forestry, Cargo Transportation, Emergency Relief, Leisure and Tourism industries” hinting at many different usage scenarios. Being a Flatframe chassis means you can easily convert it into an RV, Tipper, Dropside, Crane, Fridge, Fire Fighting vehicle, Recovery truck, or anything else.

The company has started taking pre-orders at a starting price of €51,716 ($59,887), with the vehicle’s global market launch scheduled for January 1, 2022. The chassis comes with a two-year warranty and aftersales support, by VW and MAN service centers all around the world.
