The black Porsche 911 Turbo that appeared in the original 1995 film “Bad Boys” will be auctioned this January in Kissimmee, Florida by Mecum. This is the actual car that was driven by Will Smith’s character as proven by certificates of authenticity from both Porsche and Columbia Pictures.

The iconic movie car is a late example of the 964 Turbo 3.6 from 1994. Besides the screen time, it is a sought-after classic because of its rarity, since Porsche only produced this specific variant of the Turbo in 1993 and 1994 with less than 350 units for the U.S. market. The turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six engine produced 355 hp (265 kW / 360 PS) and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque, sending power to the rear axle through a five-speed manual gearbox.

Director Michael Bay, who owned the car, sold it to film producer Pat Sandstone. In 2005, the current owner bought it from the producer, while the car spend some time in Matthew Drendel’s collection between 2008 and 2014.

Today, the odometer has 34,396 miles (55,355 km), and as you can see from the pictures, both the exterior and the interior are in showroom condition. Equipment includes air conditioning, radio/cassette player, sunroof, whale-tail rear spoiler, black leather upholstery, and five-spoke Speedline aluminum wheels.

Following a complete restoration in 2006, the 964 Turbo 3.6 has received awards in the 2014 Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance, 2015 French Lick Porsche Parade, 2016 Jay Peak Concours d’Elegance, and 2017 Amelia island, while in 2020 it was showcased for eight months in Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, Georgia. It even made a red carpet appearance for the premiere of the “Bad Boys for Life” in January 2020, despite being replaced on-screen by a 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S.

It’ll Cost You A Pretty Penny For Sure

Given its history, the black Porsche is expected to fetch some serious amount of money in the Kissimmee Auction in Florida, possibly beating all previous examples of the 964 Turbo 3.6. Indicative of the car’s value is that a similar example – without any movie certificates – was listed for €275,000 last year. In September, the even rarer Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 “X88” owned by Jenson Button was sold for an eye-watering $439,099.
