The Mitsubishi ASX, also sold as the RVR and the Outlander Sport, could finally be replaced by a new-generation model in 2023.

Czech publication Auto.cz recently had the opportunity to speak with the automaker’s local public relations manager who revealed that the current model has sold out and that it is no longer featured on Mitsubishi’s price list or configurator in the Czech Republic. This is because the next-generation model is apparently just around the corner.

Driven: 2020 Mitsubishi ASX Looks Fresh But Desperately Needs A Replacement

Details about the new model are limited but the publication claims that it could be one of the two models that Mitsubishi has confirmed it is developing in cooperation with Renault for the European market. The most likely possibility is that the next-gen ASX will share its technologies and underpinnings with the Renault Captur and if this is the case, it could be smaller than the outgoing model, Drive notes.

To say the current ASX / Outlander Sport is crying out for a replacement would be an understatement. Mitsubishi has been building the SUV since 2010 and over that time, it has undergone three facelifts. Despite the automaker’s best attempts to keep it fresh, it is really feeling its age, as we discovered when testing it out in mid-2020.

From a visual standpoint, the new ASX should follow in the footsteps of the 2022 Outlander and Eclipse Cross with the latest iteration of Mitsubishi’s ‘Dynamic Shield’ design language. That will mean a large black grille with chrome trim, angular LED daytime running lights, and a split headlamp design.
