Lego and BMW today revealed that they will be collaborating on a new set. The 1:5 scale M 1000 RR kit will be nearly 18-inches (46 cm) long and boasts a number of fully functional features.

Inspired by the first BMW motorcycle to use the M badge, the 205 hp (208 PS/153 kW) superbike was designed to meet the highest performance demands for the race track and the road. The Lego set has been designed to be just as impressive.

“When the management of BMW Motorrad announced the first M model on two wheels, the BMW M 1000 RR, everyone knew that it would be something special,” said Ralf Rodepeter, Head of Marketing and Product Management at BMW Motorrad. “In the same way, the LEGO Technic team realized they needed to come up with something unprecedented to pay tribute to the M RR. The result is a motorcycle and a technical model that each represent the state of the art in their respective fields.”

The kit features a record-setting 1,920 pieces, which allow it to be as meticulously detailed as a builder could ever hope for. Its wealth of pieces means that it has a fully functional three-speed gearbox, an upside-down fork and rear swingarm with suspension, as well as a dashboard with three different display options. It also has a gold-colored drive chain and a paddock wheel stand and a pit board for added racing flair.

“It’s been so much fun getting underneath the skin of such a significant model for BMW Motorrad,” said Samuel Tacchi, a designer at the Lego Group. “There’s a reason why these beautifully engineered bikes are so universally loved by the biking community, and we are confident our LEGO Technic version is a winner like its real-life namesake.”

The Lego Technic BMW M 1000 RR will be available exclusively in Lego stores and on lego.com as of January 1. Other retailers will start selling the set on March 1, 2022, at a recommended retail price of $299.99.
