Mercedes has created a special version of the G-Class to celebrate Bernhard Langer, a golf legend who has been at the top of his class for over 40 years, just like the SUV.

“I am delighted to receive this honor and am impressed by what has been created here. I have a lot in common with the G-Class,” said Langer. “It already existed when I first competed here [at the Masters] in 1982. Since then, we’ve both stayed true to ourselves, while at the same time always moving with the times and constantly evolving.”

Presented ahead of the 2022 Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, a tournament Langer has won twice, Mercedes surprised the player with the unique example of the G-Class that celebrates his decades-long career. The white SUV was treated as a canvas by Leah Abucayan, a designer and artist from California. The result is a G-Class that tells the story of Langer’s career using tape art.

“This is how we honor two icons – Bernhard Langer and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class,” said Bettina Fetzer, Head of Communications and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz AG. “Bernhard Langer and the G-Class have been shaping the spirit of the time for more than 40 years and are both emblematic of our campaign claim ‘Stronger than Time’.”

Mercedes is partnering with the Augusta National Golf Club to sponsor the Masters Tournament for the 15th year in a row. Langer will take on the world’s best, including Spain’s Jon Rahm, last year’s tournament winner, who will wear the Mercedes star on his sleeve as a brand ambassador.

The golfers will tee off on April 7 to 10 for the 2022 edition of the tournament.
