Volkswagen is celebrating 20 years since the debut of the first-generation Touareg with a new special edition of the third-generation model dubbed “Edition 20”. The anniversary special comes with unique trim and a long list of standard equipment, exactly ten years after the Touareg Edition X.

The VW Touareg Edition 20 is visually distinguished by the new Meloe Blue paint, exclusively combined with a set of 20-inch gloss-black Bogota wheels. The same treatment has been used for the wheel arches, and the diffuser, matching the black exterior trim of the R-badged model in the photos. The new special edition of the Touareg also gets tinted windows, LED taillights with a cherry red tint, and “Edition 20” badges on the B-pillars.

Inside the cabin, the Edition 20 logo appears in the illuminated sills and on the lever of the automatic gearbox. The seats are upholstered in black Savona leather with diamond stitching and piping in Ceramique (light beige). The dashboard comes with Ceramique and Red piping, matching the red accents all around the cabin. More importantly, the Innovision Cockpit with the massive 15-inch infotainment touchscreen is included in the standard equipment, alongside the Travel Assist ADAS which allows for semi-autonomous driving. Still, the fancy air suspension with roll compensation feature is optional.

The Edition 20 is available with four different powertrains – two diesels, one gasoline, and one plug-in hybrid. On the diesel front, we have the 3.0-liter V6 TDI producing 228 hp (170 kW / 231 PS) and 500 Nm (368.8 lb-ft) of torque, or 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS) and 600 Nm (442.5 lb-ft). The petrol option is a 3.0-liter V6 TSI with 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS) and 450 Nm (331.9 lb-ft) of torque. Finally, the plug-in hybrid V6 TSI (eHybrid) produces 375 hp (280 kW / 381 PS) and 600 Nm (442.5 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The most powerful Touareg R plug-in hybrid is not included in the “Edition 20” range, probably because it is cool enough on its own.

The VW Touareg Edition 20 is already available to order with prices starting from €77,530 ($82,585) in Germany for the entry-level V6 TDI. In the past two decades, Volkswagen has sold more than one million units of the Touareg. The flagship SUV of the VW range is sharing its platform with the Audi Q7/Q8, Porsche Cayenne/Cayenne Coupe, Bentley Bentayga, and Lamborghini Urus, although their character and market positioning are quite different from each other.
