The facelifted BMW X3 will help allow you to swerve around a moose but it certainly doesn’t provide the most comfortable ride.
Spanish publication km77 recently through the updated X3 into the deep end by subjecting it to the famed moose test. The example tested had a diesel engine and all-wheel drive while also sitting on optional 20-inch wheels wrapped in 245 mm wide tires at the front and 275 mm tires at the rear.

In the first attempt, the SUV was maneuvered around the cones at 47.8 mph (77 km/h), and while it did hit one cone, that appeared to be the fault of the driver, rather than the fault of the car. The safety systems of the X3 kept everything under control and it looks to have been relatively easy to drive. However, the sudden change of direction does prompt the BMW to bounce quite violently as it goes through the test.
The best successful run was made at 50.3 mph (81 km/h). That’s quite impressive, particularly when you consider the fact that the M4 Competition, tested by km77 last year, could only navigate the moose test safety at 47.22 mph (76 km/h) and even then its rear tires lost traction and it was difficult to control.
BMW unveiled the facelifted X3 in June last year. The car manufacturer has managed to give it a fresh new look and added to its aggression without going overboard. Among the most obvious changes made are the revised kidney grilles, sharp headlights and taillights, and a number of interior upgrades, including a larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen as standard or a 12.3-inch display and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as part of the Live Cockpit Professional package.
