Fisker may increase production of the all-electric Ocean SUV in response to strong demand for the vehicle.

The car manufacturer had intended on producing 50,000 examples of the Ocean SUV each year. However, Henrik Fisker recently announced that more than 58,000 reservations and orders for the Ocean have been placed and that it secured 5,000 orders for the Fisker Ocean One launch edition model in just 30 days after its unveiling in July.

“The enthusiasm we’re seeing worldwide for the Fisker Ocean is nothing short of humbling,” Henrik Fisker said in a recent statement. “With our partners at Magna, test vehicles are rolling off the line at the carbon-neutral manufacturing plant in Graz, where we are working diligently on expanding production numbers beyond the current projection of 50,000 units per year. We are also exploring expanding operations to meet this growing demand, including considering manufacturing in the United States. And with our disciplined spending, strong cash position, extraordinary operational flexibility, strong relationships with our suppliers, and a diversified, high line-of-sight potential revenue stream for the first year, we’re full speed ahead on all fronts.”

Henrik Fisker added that the car manufacturer expects to have secured at least 80,000 reservations for the Ocean before the end of 2022. Production will kick off on November 17, 2022 at Magna Steyr’s production facility in Graz, Austria.

The contract manufacturer has already built 55 prototypes of the Fisker Ocean and is currently in the midst of testing them before production of customer cars begins. Of these prototypes, two recently touched down at Fisker’s headquarters in Manhattan Beach, California.

In separate news, Fisker confirmed that it had $851.9 million in the bank at the second of Q2, stating that it “continues to deliver and execute against its business plan predicated on a foundation of operational excellence and a disciplined and deliberate financial strategy.”
