Last month Polestar’s CEO said that he would like to see a production version of the O2 concept car and today the brand has officially confirmed it. The hardtop roadster will be called Polestar 6 and is expected to arrive in 2026 with a fully electric powertrain.

Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO said that the “overwhelming consumer and press response” following the debut of the O2 concept in March 2022, prompted them to put it into production. He went on to describe the upcoming model as “a perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down”.

The Polestar 6 name means that the roadster will slot above the upcoming Polestar 5 electric grand tourer. It is no secret that the models are sharing some design cues, especially at the front end which is an evolution of the earlier Precept concept. Judging from the grand tourer, the production version of the roadster is expected to retain most of the styling of the O2 concept, with the exception of a few toned-down features.

To celebrate the new model confirmation, Polestar announced a special edition of the Polestar 6 called “LA Concept”. This one will be produced in a limited number of 500 units, featuring the Sky blue exterior shade, the 21-inch alloy wheels, and the light-colored leather interior, mirroring the specification of the O2 concept car.

Predictably, the Polestar 6 will be based on the bespoke bonded aluminum chassis of the Polestar 5 which was developed in-house. The same applies for the 800-volt architecture with dual electric motors producing up to 872 hp (650 kW / 884 PS) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque. Those figures are enough for a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The company said they will announce further details and specifications “as the production car becomes reality” towards the expected launch.

Polestar has already started taking orders for the roadster with production expected to begin in 2026. Pricing has yet to be disclosed but those who want to reserve a build slot can visit the official website starting from today. Polestar will showcase the O2 concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and The Quail during the Monterey Car Week in California.
