Lamborghini released a short teaser of an upcoming variant of the Urus testing at the Pikes Peak Hill climb. The updated Urus is one of the three new model launches confirmed by the Sant’Agata company for 2022, alongside the Huracan Sterrato and another Urus variant.

The video uploaded by Lamborghini on its official Instagram and Facebook channels is joined by the “Performance reaches a new dimension” phrase in the description. It shows a prototype of the Urus with the familiar orange camouflage wrap. The model comes fitted with a different front bumper compared to the outgoing Urus, featuring revised intakes and more pronounced fins. We can also see black-finished multi-spoke wheels, new inlets on the rear bumper, a larger rear spoiler, more prominent quad exhaust pipes, and a more stylish diffuser.

Interestingly, the Urus prototype doesn’t come with the Huracan Tecnica design traits below the matrix LED headlights that were seen in earlier spy shots, making us wonder whether this is the rumored Urus Performante, the electrified Urus PHEV, or simply a facelifted Urus Evo. In any case, we expect more power from the V8 engine, and possibly a revised chassis setup for improved handling. The prototype also gets a roll cage inside the cabin for safety reasons since driving flat out on Pikes Peak is quite dangerous.

Speaking of which, the Urus is driven by Simone Faggioli, a professional racing driver who has won 11 European Hill Climb Championships and 15 Italian Hill Climb Championships. Does that mean that Lamborghini will aim for a hill climb record with the updated Urus? We’ll have to wait and see. Currently, the fastest SUV in Pikes Peak is the mechanically-related Bentley Bentayga Speed which got the title in 2018.

We expect to learn more about the mysterious Lamborghini Urus prototype sometime in the coming days/weeks. Lamborghini has confirmed that the first of the three new model launches for 2022 will take place in August, while there are rumors about the facelifted Urus debuting at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
