Offered in color schemes inspired by the 1972 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, TAG Heuer’s latest model is a limited edition timepiece that celebrates the automotive company’s first “Carrera” branded vehicle.

“The name and spirit of the Carrera are incredibly meaningful and emblematic for both TAG Heuer and Porsche,” said TAG Heuer CEO Frédéric Arnault. “So, for the 50th anniversary of the very first Porsche 911 Carrera, the iconic RS 2.7, we wanted to create a tribute watch that would express the character and power of this groundbreaking sportscar within our own signature TAG Heuer Carrera chronograph.”

Presented to the world at an event in Paris on October 5, 2022, the watches were introduced 50 years to the day after the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was launched. The first Porsche 911 given the “Carrera” name, the car intended to be a road legal vehicle that could also be raced by owners.

Based on the 42 mm TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph, these special edition watches were created for those same purposes. With a sleek design that is ideal for everyday use, its tri-compax layout has also been created to be as legible and accurate as possible, which is great for drivers.

The watch is equipped with TAG Heuer’s most advanced movement, the Calibre Heuer 02, which has a power reserve of 80 hours. The movement’s oscillating mass, meanwhile, has been customized to look like Porsche‘s three-spoke steering wheel and is visible through the sapphire crystal case back.

The timepiece will be offered in two colors that are inspired by the color options offered on by Porsche in 1972: Indischrot (Guards Red) and Glasurblau (Glazier Blue).

The Sporty Blue Edition will be limited to just 500 examples and will get a polished steel case, rhodium-plated indexes, and hour and minute hands that are designed to recall the chrome door handles of the 911 Carrera RS 2.7. The dial, meanwhile, is smooth white opalin and the two sub-counters have a snailed finish.

The Sporty Red Edition will be even more limited, with just 250 examples being offered. Each gets an 18K 5N rose gold case, crown, and pushers. The shimmering white dial is surrounded by Guards Red lines and rose-gold colored applied indexes.

“The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was the first 911 to be christened ‘Carrera’ and the crowning glory of the Porsche range at this time,” says Detlev von Platen, head of Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG. “The anniversary of this sportscar icon is the perfect occasion for us to launch a joint watch with our close partner TAG Heuer, with whom we share the same philosophy and love for exclusive products that combine innovation and heritage.”

The chronographs are offered at TAG Heuer boutiques and select retail partners. The blue edition starts at $7,750, while the red model rings in at $23,550.
