Despite regulation and slow sales of some models, there is a bevy of new coupes available for sale across the globe today. At the same time, that doesn’t mean that all of them are all that attractive.

Automotive design isn’t easy to get right. In fact, getting it wrong seems to be considerably easier. While a design that’s beloved by most is highly elusive, one that most people hate is pretty easy to come by these days. Thankfully, there are a number of very different new coupes available for less than $100,000.

Right now, the brand-new BMW M2 is making all the rounds with its outstanding 453 hp (337 kW) engine mated to a standard manual transmission. We just wished that it had some cohesive design. To my eyes, it looks like the kind of car you’d find in a video game that wanted to just make it different enough from BMW‘s actual design that it could fall on the right side of the law.

Thankfully, there are some much prettier coupes out there. The Jaguar F-Type for example has classic sports car looks without leaning too heavily on the fashioned design tropes of today. The new Nissan Z, the Toyota Supra, and the Porsche 718 Cayman all deserve a degree of mention as well. They each feature aspects of historical design with modern trends.

If we had to pick a single vehicle it would have to be the Chevrolet Corvette Coupe. Not only is it the boldest Corvette in decades but it’s so snazzy that many of us have mistaken it for cars worth two or three times as much. It’s proportional, purposeful, and functional too.
