Subaru announced today that the sixth-generation Impreza will debut later this month at the Los Angeles Auto Show. With that, the automaker released a teaser image of the compact car under very dark shadows.

Little was revealed about the new car, but Subaru did note that the fan-favorite Impreza will be introduced by professional rallycross driver and skateboarder, Bucky Lasek, and his daughter Paris during a special livestream.

While little has been said about the 2024 Impreza officially, Subaru has already shown off the extremely closely related 2024 Crosstrek. Since the two are so similar, we would anticipate a high degree of overlap between the two vehicles.

The 2024 Crosstrek sits on a modified version of the Subaru Global Platform that was first introduced in 2016, which is also when the fifth-generation Impreza was introduced. Modified to be stiffer and quieter, the chassis will house a familiar 2.0-liter hybrid boxer powertrain.

The “e-Boxer” sends power to all four corners via a symmetrical AWD system and a Lineartronic CVT transmission. Power figures for the crossover have not yet been revealed, but rumors suggest that North Americans will also have access to a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, and that a smaller displacement engine will replace the plain-Jane 2.0-liter boxer in some markets.

Such is the similarity between the vehicles that we even anticipate that the Crosstrek’s design is a preview of the Impreza‘s design. If you imagine the crossover stripped of plastic body cladding and lowered slightly, it should give you a pretty good idea of what the car will look like.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait nearly two weeks until Subaru unveils the car, and we can stop using the power of our imaginations and just see the 2024 Impreza. The Los Angeles Auto Show runs from November 18-27, 2022.
