Audi is launching a new charging service in Europe on January 1, 2023, that will operate in 27 countries and offer owners access to some 400,000 charging points.

The company is cooperating with Volkswagen Group Charging GmbH and its Elli brand for the program and will replace the existing Audi e-tron Charging Service, providing customers with competitive charging rates for EVs and plug-in hybrids.

Audi owners who elect to use the service will be offered three different options in the UK; basic, plus, and pro. The basic service is designed for owners that primarily charge their vehicles at home and carries no monthly fee but charges £0.48 ($0.58) per kWh AC charging, £0.63 ($0.76) per kWh DC charging, and £0.69 ($0.83) per kWh through Ionity’s high-performance chargers.

Last but not least is the pro service for drivers who frequently charge their vehicles on the road. It has a £12.95 ($15.59) monthly fee, an AC charging fee of £0.35 ($0.42) per kWh, DC charging fee of £0.43 ($0.52) per kWh, and an Ionity charging fee of just £0.31 ($0.37) per kWh.

Owners will be able to easily find compatible charging points through Audi’s Multi Media Interface and in the myAudi app. The charging stations can also be unlocked and the charging process started through the provided RFID card.

An even more convenient ‘Plug & Charge’ function will be added to the Q4 e-tron and Q8 e-tron models in mid-2023. All owners need to do is activate the functionality once from inside the car and the vehicle and charging station will communicate via an encrypted connection, allowing the charging process to start as soon as the connector is plugged into the vehicle. Billing will be done through the form of payment saved in the owner’s myAudi app.
