AC Cars confirmed today that it is working on a new two-seater coupe based on the Cobra, and the debut will take place in the spring of 2023. Dubbed the AC Cobra GT, the automaker promises heart-stopping performance combined with grand touring comfort and modern tech.

Although the body teased in these images may look familiar, AC promises that this was a “clean sheet design” that will deliver “a revolution in design for the 61-year-old model.” It also promises that the car will be the most advanced Cobra ever built.

Those advancements start with a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine from Ford that can be supercharged to deliver up to 654 hp (488 kW/663 PS) and 575 lb-ft (780 Nm) of torque. That engine can be hooked up to a 10-speed automatic or if you’re a traditionalist, a six-speed manual.

The “clean sheet” that AC Cars is talking about, though, refers to its chassis. A specially designed space frame, it is made of extruded aluminum and has carbon fiber bodywork draped over it. That results in a car that weighs less than 1,500 kg (3,307 lbs). In combination with that healthy dose of horsepower, AC Cars reckons that the Cobra GT will be able to reach a speed of 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.6 seconds.

In addition to being light, the car will have a wheelbase of 2,570 mm (101 inches), which makes it the largest AC Cobra to date. The company claims that the spaceframe will offer exceptional torsional rigidity, in addition to refinement and high-performance handling characteristics.

AC Cars has designed this car specifically for daily usability and comfort. The new model will feature a removable hardtop, air conditioning, a sophisticated in-car entertainment system, and electric windows, among other refined touches.

The company promises that it will also offer a wide variety of options, many inspired by the brand’s history, in order to allow customers to customize the car to their personal tastes. Pricing has not yet been announced, but potential buyers who are interested in the vehicle are invited to reserve a model through AC Cars’ website.
