A 2022 Rivian R1T Launch Edition has wound up at a salvage yard for auction after the owner somehow managed to roll it on a farm.

For the most part, vehicles that end up being auctioned off by wholesale salvage companies like IAAI and Copart are listed for sale with very few details about what happened to them. This isn’t the case here as the owner of the R1T has taken to the ‘Rivian Automotive Fans‘ page on Facebook to describe what happened.

The owner states that he was driving the electric pickup on a field at his parent’s farm when it unexpectedly rolled over and landed on its side. He says that it was so sudden that he hadn’t even put his seatbelt on but that the airbags kept him safe. He warns everyone on the Facebook page “that these trucks will roll easier than you’d expect them to.”

Rivian was informed of the crash and reportedly sent two engineers to the crash site to investigate just how the EV rolled onto its side at what appears to be relatively slow speeds. We suspect that the long grass and soft ground may have played a factor.

Images taken in the aftermath of the crash show that comprehensive damage has been done to both side of the electric pickup, its roof, and the hood. The windshield has also been smashed.

It’s hard to know if any significant damage has been done to the powertrain of the R1T but at least two of the wheels appear to be sitting at a slightly odd angle, indicating that some suspension damage may have also been done.

The IAAI listing states that the EV has an actual cash value of $96,503 and is available through its branch in Charlotte, North Carolina.
