Teasers are usually cryptic, but Volkswagen has taken that to extremes with a new video that reveals virtually nothing.

The clip starts out with the sound of the mysterious vehicle silently traversing what appears to be a frozen lake.  We’re then shown a shot of the wheels and a glimpse of the rocker panel.  From there, the clip shows some generous ground clearance before teasing the head- and taillights at a distance.

That’s not a lot to go on, but we could be looking at a plug-in hybrid or electric crossover given the ground clearance and lack of engine noise.  The head-on shot also appears to show an illuminated bar beneath the headlights, although that’s not much of a clue as light bars are quickly spreading across Volkswagen’s lineup.

We’re a bit perplexed as to what the company is teasing, but they could be hinting at the facelifted Touareg or the redesigned Tiguan.  Both crossovers are currently undergoing cold weather testing and are slated to offer plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Of course, Volkswagen is also testing an assortment of other models including facelifted versions of the Golf and ID.3.  Engineers are also busy working on the new Passat, ID.7, and long-wheelbase ID.Buzz.  However, the mystery model appears to be a crossover, so that would seemingly rule those vehicles out.

Regardless of what Volkswagen has up their sleeve, the mystery model is “coming soon.”  However, in the meantime, feel free to let us know your guesses in the comments below.
