The new Subaru WRX has been splitting opinions since its debut, but at the end of the day, the one true measure of its success isn’t its popularity in the public eye, but rather its sales figures. To the dismay of those who are in the anti-WRX camp, the compact performance sedan just posted its best February sales to date.

Subaru sold 2,598 WRXs in the United States this past month, the most they’ve ever sold in the month of February since the car’s inception. This represents an 8,280.7% increase in sales from the same time last year, though that number is a bit misleading, as they only sold 31 WRXs in February 2022. Looking back at 2021, the last time there were significant February sales for the car, Subaru moved 1,721 units, which is still 33.8% lower compared to this year. Regardless, we’d be interested to see how many of this year’s 2,598 were sold with a manual gearbox.

The Crosstrek also had its best February to date, coming in as Subaru’s top seller for the month. The compact crossover sold 14,816 units in February 2023, which is nearly identical (albeit increased) to last February’s 14,476. Elsewhere, the Legacy, Outback, and BRZ all posted sales increases, but none above 10% compared to last February. Overall, though, Subaru as a whole saw a 2.1% increase in total sales from last February to this one, going from 44,866 in 2022 to 45,790 in 2023.

On the opposite side of things, the Ascent, Forester, Impreza, and Solterra all saw a decrease in sales, both for the month of February and the year as a whole. Going back to just February, the Impreza saw the steepest drop, from 3,520 in February 2022 to 2,591 in February 2023 (a 26.4% decrease). The slowest seller in Subaru’s lineup was the Solterra, which didn’t sell a single unit in February 2023, or any month in 2023 for that matter. Even last year, Subaru only sold 846 Solterras, 347 of which in February.
