RAM has revealed that certain Ram 1500 models sold in Europe will soon be offered with its new 3.6-liter eTorque Pentastar V6 engine.

This new powertrain brings the brand’s 3.6-liter eTorque Pentastar into the modern age by replacing the alternator with an innovative eTorque mild-hybrid system. This system features a 430 watt-hour lithium-ion nickel manganese cobalt graphite battery pack that provides a 48-volt current. The powertrain can also use a 3 kW DC-to-DC converter to operate a 12-volt starter motor that is particularly beneficial for cold starts in extreme temperatures.

A host of other important features make the eTorque Pentastar ideal for the European market. For example, it features a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system and has a compression ratio of 11.3:1. The powertrain can also recover energy ordinarily lost from deceleration and braking and EPA figures reveal that its consumes 19% less fuel than the carmaker’s available 5.7-liter naturally-aspirated V8. It pumps out a respectable 305 hp and 268 lb-ft (364 Nm) of torque.

Ram Brings 3.6-Liter Pentastar Mild Hybrid To European 1500

Ram will offer this hybrid system on the 1500 Big Horn, 1500 Laramie, and 1500 Rebel models. The newly-available engine will be showcased to the public for the first time at the upcoming ninth round of the 2023 MXGP Championship that’s held in Germany from June 10-11.

Of the three models receiving this powertrain, Ram notes that the 1500 Rebel is best suited to those that want to go off-roading because of its 1-inch suspension lift, hill descent control, and 330-inch all-terrain Goodyear Wrangler Duratec tires.

Then there is the Ram 1500 Laramie. The carmaker says it combines “best-in-class performance, payload, luxury and technology,” and comes standard with features like a 12-inch touchscreen, remote vehicle start, advanced brake assist, and adaptive cruise control with lane keep assist. Differentiating the 1500 Big Horn from the other two are chrome bumpers, available Sport and Black Appearance Packages, standard 18-inch aluminum wheels, and a smaller 8.4-inch infotainment display.
