A Sunday drive for a group of Hyundai i30 N owners in Hong Kong ended up in a pile of hot hatch wreckage after the leading vehicle was forced to slow down intensely. As reported by local media, at least 6 people were injured, including 5 drivers, but none of them was in serious condition.

As revealed by dashcam footage, a Mazda RX-7 coming from the opposite direction tried to overtake by jumping on the wrong side of the road, forcing the leading Hyundai i30 N to brake hard. The i30 N drivers from the same group that followed at a close distance didn’t have enough time to stop, crashing into each other. The Mazda driver reportedly fled the scene without stopping, with the police investigating the incident.

Photos of the aftermath were shared on Facebook groups showing the extent of the damage in at least 7 Hyundai i30 N models, with reports mentioning a 9-car pileup. The majority of the vehicles sustained heavy damage on the bumpers, bonnets, and fenders, increasing the potential repair bill. Some of them appear to be fixable but others are likely totaled due to their heavily crumpled front ends.

According to Epoch Times, the incident took place at 7:43 am on Sunday, July 23rd, on the Bride’s Pool Road. The winding stretch surrounded by beautiful scenery is named after the legend of a bride who drowned in a stream pool after she fell out of her carriage. Following the latest crash, the road was closed until the authorities removed the wrecked cars from the scene.

What is likely the biggest Hyundai N pileup we have ever seen didn’t result in tragedy but it certainly ruined what was supposed to be a fun day for the owners. Hopefully, next time they will pay more attention to keeping a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, especially during spirited drives.
