Imagine driving your Tesla to a charging station only to find two full-size ICE-powered pickups blocking the way to the charging cable. This is what happened in the city of Readings in Pennsylvania according to our reader Rahul who sent us the photo evidence.

A black GMC Sierra Denali and a white Ram 1500 were parked side by side very close to a gas station, occupying two spots that are reserved for Tesla vehicles. The owners of the gas-guzzling trucks ignored the signs and the markings, taking over the dedicated EV slots, likely as their not-so-clever way of making a statement against the automaker.

The trend, known as “icing“, apparently started back in 2018 with various kinds of combustion-engined vehicles parking in front of EV chargers. It appears that the childish game is still a thing in many US states, creating unnecessary drama and making life more difficult for EV owners.

Despite the fact that electric vehicles and charging stations have become quite common these days, many people still think of electrification as a threat while others mock anything that has to do with zero-emission mobility and other environmentally conscious acts. Whether you like EVs or not, blocking one’s access to charging is simply wrong. Those who perform or promote icing should probably find another way of protesting their beliefs.
