Another EV from China will be soon added to the seemingly myriad rivals of the Tesla Model 3. This one comes from the collaboration between two companies with impressive credentials, the tech-giant Huawei and the automotive giant Chery. The model, codenamed EH3, was previewed on social media before its forthcoming launch in China something in the coming weeks/months.

The single image of the EV was shared on Weibo by Yu Chengdong, a high-ranked official currently serving as the CEO of Huawei’s Intelligent Automotive Solution BU department. He called it a “pure electric coupe” although it looks more like a four-door sedan with a sleek roofline. The model has premium surfacing, toned-up rear shoulders, and modern styling cues like the slim full-width LED bar at the front which adopts a grille-less look.

Huawei And Chery Preview New Luxeed EV Set To Rival The Tesla Model 3 With Advanced Tech

It has been confirmed that the Luxeed will be the first vehicle to get Huawei‘s HarmonyOS 4 software which was detailed last Friday at the Huawei Developers Conference 2023. This means it will offer plenty of advanced connectivity features, especially in combination with Huawei-branded smartphones and smartwatches.

The Luxeed is rumored to ride on the E0X architecture, which will also be used on Chery’s Exeed Sterra ES and ET premium EVs. This means it will likely use a CATL-sourced battery pack offering around 700 km (435 miles) of range, and dual electric motors. In terms of safety, the model will get the new Huawei ADS 2.0 intelligent driving system utilizing a roof-mounted LiDAR, 11 high-definition cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 3 millimeter-wave radars for advanced autonomous driving capabilities.

Yu Chengdong said that the Luxeed will be launched within Q3 2023, so we expect to learn more about it soon. There is a chance it will premiere at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 25. Car News China suggests that the starting price of the EV will be around ¥200,000 ($27,803) which, if confirmed, will make it cheaper than the Tesla Model 3. Note that the latter will be updated soon, in a quest to keep up with the fierce competition.
