A host of road-going and race-prepped cars from Porsche will be running advanced e-fuels at this weekend’s Rennsport Reunion 7 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

This year’s Rennsport Reunion promises to be the most exciting since the event’s formation and it will be the first time that Porsche is using its e-fuels at a large-scale event in the United States. Given that Porsche is one of the automotive industry’s most outspoken proponents of synthetic fuels, the event will also serve to showcase the viability of such fuels across the broader automotive market.

Porsche’s e-fuels are made from a combination of water and carbon dioxide and are produced using renewable energy. The car manufacturer notes that the CO2 captured during the production process roughly equals the CO2 emitted during the usage of an e-fuel-powered combustion car, meaning the solution is “mostly net CO2 neutral.” The carmaker started producing synthetic fuel in late 2022 at its pilot plant in Punta Arenas, China late last year.

A handful of different cars will use eFuels at the Rennsport Reunion. These will include a modified Porsche 356 prototype, a number of vehicles used for demonstration laps throughout the event, and a number of Cayennes that will serve as media shuttles throughout the course of the event.

“We are thrilled to demonstrate the power and possibility of e-fuels at Rennsport,” executive vice president and chief operating officer of Porsche Cars North America Joe Lawrence said. “As the largest gathering of Porsche fans in the world, this is the perfect place to demonstrate the potential of eFuels in combustion engines, both in our sports cars for the street and our race cars for the track.”

Rennsport Reunion 7 is running from September 28 to October 1. More than 300 race entries have been confirmed for the event and Porsche is also bringing along the Mission X Concept Car and Vision 357 Speedster.
