Genesis is paying tribute to the racing career of former driver Jacky Ickx with a new livery for the exotic X Gran Berlinetta concept. The special homage, unveiled in Switzerland, prominently features the name of the Belgian racing legend, who also conveniently serves as a Genesis Brand Partner.

Unlike the original concept unveiled late last year, which boasted a striking Magma orange finish, the tribute opts for a more subdued Midnight Blue shade. This is complemented by a white stripe on the hood, paying homage to Jacky Ickx’s helmet, along with racing flag stickers adorning the fenders.

The massive alloy wheels feature a gold finish, providing a strong contrast to the dark blue hue of the sculpted bodywork. This livery undeniably amplifies the allure of the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta, fueling anticipation for the possibility of the company evolving it into a production model.

The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta concept debuted in December 2023 as a design study for the Gran Turismo video game, embodying the Korean brand’s “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy. It also serves as a showcase for the upcoming Magma line of performance-focused production models from Genesis, which includes the electric GV60 crossover, the G80 sedan, and the GV80 Coupe SUV.

The Koreans also detailed the complex hybrid powertrain of the study. The setup features a front mid-mounted V6 generating 870 hp (649 kW / 882 PS), alongside a single electric motor adding another 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS). Together, they produce a combined output of 1,071 hp (799 kW / 1,086 PS) and 986 lb-ft (1,337 Nm) of torque, propelling the X Gran Berlinetta into hypercar territory.

A Racing Legend

Jacky Ickx is widely known for securing six wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, making him the second most successful driver in the series, trailing only Tom Kristensen, who clinched victory nine times. Beyond Le Mans, Ickx boasts an impressive track record in various motorsports disciplines, including eight Formula 1 victories, a Paris-Dakar triumph, a Can-Am championship title, and an impressive tally of 37 major World Sports Car wins.

Genesis Switzerland displayed the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Tribute Concept during a special event held in Lake Geneva, in partnership with Swiss luxury jeweler and watchmaker Chopard. Ickx graced the occasion, standing alongside the coupe adorned with his iconic helmet. In addition to his collaboration with Genesis, Ickx’s signature also adorns Chopard’s latest Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph JX7 limited edition watches, priced at $10,300 and $12,100 respectively.
