- ABT boost the Cupra Formentor VZ5 to 626 hp.
- The SUV gains adjustable coilovers and subtle aero.
- Tuner announced a limited production of 30 units.
Some engines deserve a Viking funeral. Audi’s five-cylinder, soon to disappear from Europe in its current non-electrified form, is getting exactly that from ABT. The Kempten-based tuner has built the most powerful version of the 2.5-liter five ever to leave a workshop, with 626 horsepower on tap. The surprise is where it ended up.
Instead of turning the wick up on the Audi RS3 hot hatch, ABT applied the treatment to the Cupra Formentor VZ5 crossover, with production capped at 30 units. The result is the first Cupra in history to outgun the original Lamborghini Huracan.

The formidable 2.5-liter five-cylinder gets a new turbocharger, a high-performance intercooler, a recalibrated ECU, and a water-ethanol injection system that ABT calls IWI. A dedicated control unit oversees the setup, with fluid levels monitored through the myABT app. The tuner says the injection delivers “a very strong internal cooling effect” that lets the engine keep producing big numbers “at the highest performance levels” without backing off.
The math works out to 626 hp (467 kW / 635 PS) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. That is an additional 241 hp (180 kW / 245 PS) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) over the standard Cupra Formentor VZ5. ABT has not published a 0-100 km/h (62mph) time but quotes a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph).
This project serves as the flagship of ABT’s Formentor development timeline. The journey began in 2021 with a 365 hp (272 kW / 370 PS) tune for the four-cylinder model, followed by a 444 hp (331 kW / 450 PS) version of the five-cylinder VZ5 in 2022. The latest Cupra even surpasses the ABT-tuned Audi RS3-R, which makes up to 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS) from the same basic engine.

Power is only part of the package. The Formentor VZ5 635 also picks up sport stabilizer bars and a coilover setup with separately adjustable compression and rebound. ABT says the chassis was developed with the Nurburgring in mind, but insists it remains civilized enough for the daily grind.
Visually, the car wears carbon fiber on the front splitter and rear diffuser, plus a gloss black extension for the roof spoiler. It rides on 20-inch alloys in gloss black, sitting lower than standard thanks to the new suspension.
Interior changes are limited to an ABT start-stop button, VZ5 635 embroidery on the floor mats, and “1 on 30” lettering embossed on the trim around the climate vents.

The VZ5 635 will be produced in a limited number of 30 units, celebrating the 130th anniversary of ABT. All of them will be distributed through the official Cupra network in Germany, Switzerland and Austria at an undisclosed price.
The Cupra Formentor launched in 2019 as the crossover counterpart to the Leon and received its first facelift in 2024 with the shark-inspired front end the brand now uses across the range. The five-cylinder will not be around to see the next one.
