Decades ago, if something fell off your car while driving, it almost always had to do with rust or a missing bolt. Now, it seems that glue, or the lack thereof, can cause the same problem with cars that are barely a few years old. Ford just recalled 86,543 Mustang Mach-E crossovers from the 2023-2025MY because exterior trim could come loose at speed. Obviously, that’s not good for anyone on the road.

The recall centers on the rear side quarter window glass trim, which Ford says may not be securely bonded to the glass. If it detaches at speed, the company warns it could create a road hazard that increases the risk of a crash. Drivers may notice the trim isn’t fully seated or hear increased wind noise, squeaks, or rattles before it comes off.
Ford traced the problem to a supplier process change made in February 2023. According to the automaker, the introduction of a new assembly jig reduced the time required to install the trim piece. Unfortunately, that also left too little time for the primer used during assembly to cure properly, resulting in a weaker bond between the trim and the glass. The supplier implemented a permanent fix in September 2024 by adding a timer that prevents installation until the primer has cured for at least 30 seconds.

The issue first caught Ford’s attention after a spike in warranty claims prompted an internal investigation in May 2026. As of July 21, the automaker had received 219 reports of loose or detached trim pieces on affected U.S. vehicles. Despite those reports, Ford says it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the defect. Examples of owners complaining about the issue are all over the web.

Owners will be asked to bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer, where technicians will inspect the rear quarter window trim and replace it if necessary at no cost. Dealer notifications are scheduled to begin in early September, while owner notification letters are expected to be mailed between September 10 and September 14.
Camera Recall for F-150 and Super Duty
Ford also had another recall to announce this week. The company is recalling 47,587 2021-2023 F-150s and 2023-2026 Super Duty trucks equipped with an 8-inch SYNC 4 display and 360-degree camera system because a camera views menu can remain on screen after the vehicle is shifted into Reverse, partially obscuring the rearview camera image. Ford says it’s unaware of any crashes or injuries tied to the software bug, and affected trucks will receive a free software update either over the air or at a dealership.
