Ferrari fans let down by the styling of the electric Luce and the fake manual gearbox of the 12Cilindri Manuale can find some consolation in a rare V12-powered classic now up for sale, a 550 Barchetta wearing a bright yellow finish and an unusual tailpipe configuration.
The 550 Barchetta arrived in 2000 to mark Pininfarina’s 70th anniversary, with production limited to 448 units. One of them now sits at London dealer DD Classics, and despite its age, the odometer reads just 4,900 miles (7,885 km). The car looks to be in showroom condition, which for a two-decade-old open-top Ferrari is no small thing.

Built without a proper folding top, the 550 Barchetta was conceived as an open-air speedster rather than an everyday drop-top. To get that low-slung profile, Pininfarina stripped out the 550’s roof structure, shortened the windshield rake, added custom A-pillars and twin rollover hoops behind the carbon fiber seats, and reworked the rear deck. A cloth roof did come stowed in the trunk, though buyers got a stern warning not to exceed 70 mph (110 km/h) with it up.
DD Classics
This particular Barchetta is right-hand drive and carries a curious history. It left the factory in traditional Rosso Corsa over a Nero leather interior. Then in 2015, the original owner decided every open-top Ferrari in their garage ought to match in yellow, commissioning dealer Dick Lovett Ferrari to carry out a full bare-shell respray in Giallo Fly.

Beyond the color swap, the car stands out for its unique exhaust setup. In September 2001, early in its life, it was fitted with a stainless steel sports exhaust system by German tuner Koenig Specials. Rather than the standard quad layout, the aftermarket upgrade features six tailpipes promising to deliver a deeper and raspier V12 sound.
DD Classics
Another upgrade is the factory-fitted Fiorano Handling Package. This option added stiffer springs, retuned steering, and uprated brake pads. Under the hood lies the standard naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V12 engine producing 478 hp (357 kW / 485 PS) and 568 Nm (419 lb-ft) of torque. The mill is mated to a six-speed gated manual gearbox sending power to the rear axle.

The special Ferrari is offered with a certificate of origin, owner manuals, toolkit, jack, helmets, and car cover. DD Classics will only reveal pricing upon request. This exact model fetched £218,500 ($295,000) in a Sotheby’s auction back in 2022.
The roofless 550 Barchetta was replaced by the 575 Superamerica in 2005, featuring an electrochromic glass roof and a limited production of 559 units.
