- Driving the limited-run model is a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six with 455 hp.
- Power is sent to the rear wheels courtesy of a six-speed Getrag manual transmission.
- The lightweight carbon fiber construction means the car weighs just 2,386 lbs dry.
Last year, Gunther Werks unveiled its bonkers Project F-26 at Monterey Car Week, fitted with a twin-turbo air-cooled engine with 1,000 hp. For 2026, the company has once again returned to Monterey with a new model, although this one doesn’t set out to achieve hypercar-levels of performance; rather, it’s focused on providing the most analog driving experience.
Named the GXR-Evo, production will be capped at just 15 units globally and is the fastest naturally aspirated machine Gunther Werks has put together. Behind the cabin sits a 4.0-liter flat-six co-developed with Rothsport Racing, making 455 hp and spinning to nearly 9,000 rpm before it runs out of steam.

Although the 4.0-liter flat-six you’ll find in a new 911 GT3 and GT3 RS has more power, the GXR-Evo is significantly lighter than either one. In fact, thanks to a full carbon fiber body, it has a dry weight of just 2,386 lbs (1,082 kg). There’s no word on curb weight, but it probably won’t be much beyond 2,500 lbs (1,134 kg).
Working alongside the twin-valve engine is a re-engineered Getrag G50 six-speed manual transmission that directs power through the rear wheels. Performance times haven’t been quoted, but a car like this isn’t about straight-line acceleration, and is instead all about driving thrills, whether that’s speeding up Mulholland Drive or cruising down the Pacific Coast Highway.
The GXR-Evo’s design is among the most striking that Gunther Werks has ever created. The front end includes a gaping-wide grille with a large splitter, canards, and vents on the enders, all working together to relieve pressure and boost front-end downforce. At the rear, things are arguably even more extreme with a towering fixed wing and a shark fin sitting in place of the rear window.
Carbon Fiber Everywhere
To save as much weight as possible, the interior has been stripped out. It includes Racetech carbon-kevlar racing seats with six-point Schroth harnesses and an eight-point roll cage. It also includes a configurable Motec digital display, a digital rearview mirror, a fire-suppression system, and even a driver helmet cooling system.
Pricing details for the 993-based model haven’t been announced, but Gunther Werks says each owner will receive a custom MYSIM racing simulator made of aluminum and carbon fiber, while also using the same steering wheel as the GXR-Evo.
