Honda is going all in on hybrids after pulling the plug on various high-profile EV projects. Among the more interesting entries on its future roadmap is the next Accord, due to arrive as early as 2027. Independent digital artist Theottle has published new renderings of the midsize sedan, using the recent Honda Hybrid Sedan Prototype as his starting point.
Theottle needed a body with the right proportions to build on, so he reached outside Honda’s catalog entirely and started with a Skoda Superb. The design language underneath is pure Honda concept study, softened only where production would demand it.

The biggest departure from today’s Accord is the sloping roofline, which turns the car into a fastback or liftback, if you prefer. The prototype also brought sharper surfacing, a split headlight arrangement and slim full-width taillights.
The digital artist opted for slightly smaller five-spoke alloy wheels, removed the cladding around the wheel arches and used a less prominent ducktail spoiler on the tailgate. The roof was reshaped too, sparing the production car the Cybertruck angularity of the concept.

Earlier this year, Honda marked the Accord’s 50th anniversary and let a few details slip about what comes next. Gary Robinson, Honda’s Vice President of Auto Strategy, said: “Customers will see a substantially redesigned Accord that will feel like a new model”, adding that there will be “an increased emphasis on the sporty side as we move forward”.

The 11th-generation Accord arrived in late 2022 and has soldiered on with only minor model year revisions. Robinson’s wording suggests the follow-up will use an upgraded take on the current architecture, paired with a fully redesigned exterior, a reworked cabin and a more efficient hybrid system.
Honda Hybrid Sedan Prototype
Today’s hybrid setup pairs a 2.0-liter engine with two electric motors for a combined 204 hp (152 kW / 207 PS). The replacement is expected to be roughly 10 percent more fuel efficient, and it should pick up the S+ Shift system from the Prelude and the Civic. That system fakes manual gear changes through torque mapping, sound and vibration, with no actual gearbox involved.

The next Honda Accord will continue to fight with traditional midsize sedans such as the Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata, and Nissan Altima. Depending on pricing, it may also share the field with a newer breed of rivals, as the Ford Mustang Mach-4 and Chevy Camaro sedans are both rumored to land before the decade is out.
