- Sales of the beloved Mazda MX-5 are up 31.5% since September 2025.
- Mazda has reported strong demand for all its models, including the CX-5.
- Mazda’s September sales jumped 31.9 percent compared to last year.
Mazda’s US sales skyrocketed last month, driven by a jump in demand for every single model that it sells locally. Despite this, the brand’s year-to-date sales have so far failed to match last year.
In September, Mazda sold 34,519 vehicles, a significant 31.9% increase from the same month last year. One of the standout performers was the MX-5, not because it sold in huge numbers, but because demand rose 31.5% even though it’s now more than a decade old. Evidently, people are still chasing a simple and enjoyable driving experience.

Last month, Mazda sold 689 MX-5s, up from 524 it sold in September 2025. Year-to-date sales are up 4.1% to 7,589 units. Of these, 3,909 were standard MX-5 convertible models, whereas the remaining 3,689 were the RF versions.
SUV Sales Surge
The biggest overall seller for Mazda last month was the new-generation CX-5. Sales have increased 37.8% from September last year with 11,345 units sold. Year-to-date sales are down 9.5% to 95,762, likely due to the transition from the old model to this new one.
Mazda’s CX-50 also continues to sell well with 9,147 finding new homes in September, up 3.1%. Unlike the CX-5, CX-50 sales through the first nine months of the year are up by a considerable 19.7% to 95,351 units.
Elsewhere, Mazda reports a 96.7% increase in sales of the CX-70, with 1,296 units, while sales of the CX-90 jumped a considerable 49% to 4,632. However, sales of both of these models are down from the first three-quarters of last year, dropping 21% and 21.7%, respectively. Other Mazda models that posted strong September gains included the Mazda3, up 146.9% to 3,704 units, and the CX-30, up 13.3 percent to 3,706.
