This SEMA-Bound Toyota Tacoma Has Never Heard Of The Word Restraint
Built with zero compromises and zero apologies, this wild SEMA-bound Toyota Tacoma takes custom truck design to absolute extremes.
The Toyota Tacoma has long been one of America's most popular pickup trucks, and in the mid-size segment, it is the class leader, comfortably outselling rivals like the Chevrolet Colorado and Ford Ranger. So, it's not surprising that Tacomas are popular options for builds heading to SEMA. What Mountain Yotas has created is far more extreme than anything Toyota will build, and it shows how a Tacoma can be transformed into a vehicle so rugged it wouldn't look out of place on the surface of Mars.
A wild exterior wrap combining black, white, grey, and orange immediately makes this Tacoma turn heads and was designed by Nick Hughes. Custom beadlock wheels with a white and orange finish complement the wrap and are clad in huge 40-inch Mickey Thompson Baja Boss R/T tires. Fox Factory Race Series DSC Evo shocks are fitted beneath the skin. Although Mountain Yotas' extreme Tacoma build is a one-off, Fox does sell these shocks for the Tacoma — they cost more than $6,000. With that in mind, you shouldn't expect Santa to slide down your chimney this year with a set of them.
An off-road camper that's fit for purpose
A set of 74Weld portal axles adds to the off-road credentials of this Tacoma, as do aftermarket billet upper control arms and billet rear links. It also has a new Hardblock 4x4 front locker. The standard front bumper has been ditched in favor of a steel brush bar, a black skid plate, LED driving lights, and a winch, not that we can imagine this Toyota finding itself stranded anywhere. A custom bed area has been fitted with a large rooftop tent. The tuner hasn't said what version of the Tacoma's available turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-four this one has, so it either delivers 228 horsepower or 278 hp. Either way, it includes a custom Magnaflow exhaust and a K&N air intake, so it should sound the part.
Several interior modifications have also been made. This includes custom black leather with perforated orange inserts in the seats and orange contrast stitching. Distinctive topographical maps are incorporated into the black leather, giving it a unique look.
Mountain Yotas, based in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, says it built this Tacoma to demonstrate how comprehensively it can modify off-roaders like the Toyota Tacoma. According to company founder Dwight Houser, "we live for the projects where a client says, 'only in my wildest dreams,' because our job is to turn those dreams into reality." So, if you own a Tacoma, and want it to look like this one, you know who to call. Just get your bank account ready, because it won't be cheap.
