After seeing Audi’s 5-door A5 fully camouflaged in Sweden at the beginning of March, the more potent S5 Sportback has now shown up at the warmer pastures in and around the Nurburgring.

Aside from the larger and sportier wheels over the regular A5, the only other standout features on the S5 is quad exhaust system and the slightly differentiated edges of the front spoiler.

Overall, when the car finally does come out we do expect to see its ‘S’ kit in all its glory, as well as the LED front & rear light with dynamic turn signal (Matrix LED headlights optional). On top of that, the S5 should get all the driver assistance features it needs, like the active lane assist, adaptive cruise control, park assist, cross traffic assist, collision avoidance assist and turn assist.

Powertrain-wise, we’re expecting the same 3.0-liter turbocharged TFSI unit from the S4 & S4 Avant, which packs a total of 354 PS (260 kW) and 500 Nm (368 lb-ft) of torque. In a straight line, performance should also be comparable to that of the S4, meaning a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of about 4.7 seconds.

Whereas the current A5/S5 Sportback was a forbidden fruit in North America, the second generation of the series will head over to the States and Canada providing Audi with a liftback competitor to BMW‘s 3-Series GT and 4-Series Grand Coupe.
