We have already shown you the first pictures of the Paris Motor Show-bound Nissan TeRRA, but now we have more detailed information and an official video of the SUV prototype.

But first things first. Despite the styling references and a name that hints at a vehicle related to the Xterra, Nissan makes no mention of this in its press release, while it also points out that the TeRRA is a “purely a concept car” and is not intended for production.

However, Nissan notes that the concept signals that the company “is ready to mass-produce fuel cell electric vehicles whenever hydrogen becomes widely available”.

At 4,160mm long, 1,800mm wide and 1,560mm tall the TeRRA is actually roughly the same size as the current Juke (4,125mm long, 1,765mm wide and 1,570mm tall).

Nissan senior vice president and chief creative officer Shiro Nakamura says the design of the study was inspired by “the lifestyles of youthful customers in Northern Europe” with the TeRRA developed as an urban SUV.

The concept features three electric motors, one up front and two at the rear, which are fed by Nissan’s hydrogen fuel cell stack with a power density of 2.5kW/L that’s located under the hood.

Turning the front wheels is the same electric propulsion system currently featured in the LEAF, while each back wheel gets an in-wheel electric motor, based on the working prototypes featured in the brand’s PIVO concepts.

Nissan says that since there’s no need for drive shafts to power the rear wheels, the car’s floor is completely flat.
