Subaru Releases 2014 BRZ with Minor Updates and New tS by STI Variant in Japan [44 Photos]

This is our first look at the 2014 model year version of the Japanese domestic market (JDM) Subaru BRZ that brings some minor equipment and technical improvements to the existing range, but most importantly, introduces a new (Japan market-only)  limited production ‘tS by STI’ variant with chassis, aerodynamic and styling enhancements.

Beginning with the regular models, Subaru’s Japanese press release states that the “S” model gains a full aerodynamic cover for the car’s underbelly, while the stripped down “RA” model can now be ordered with new front ventilated disc brakes and a Torsen LSD.

Following the display of a pre-production concept of the BRZ tS by STI a couple of weeks ago, Subaru released information and photos of the actual production model that goes on sale exclusively in Japan this week. The BRZ tS by STI, which doesn’t bring any performance gains from the flat-four engine, is offered in two guises, a regular version and the GT Package, with production limited to 250 units for each model.

The standard tS promises to improve the BRZ’s handling and looks with a fairly comprehensive kit from STI that includes, 18-inch silver alloy wheels shod in 225/40ZR18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, Brembo brakes, a suspension package (struts, dampers, tower bar, trailing links, and coil springs), a large-diameter driveshaft and re-tuned VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control).

Also included in the package are a front lip spoiler, STI badges, sport seats dressed in Alcantara, different steering wheel, shift knob or automatic lever, and instrument panel gauges, plus aluminum side sills, and engine-start button.

The GT Package adds black 18-inch wheels, an adjustable rear dry-carbon rear wing and Recaro front seats in Alcantara.
