Ford has finally decided to reveal the all-new S-MAX MPV, although the official photos had already leaked on the web during the weekend.

Set to debut at the Paris Auto Show next month, the second generation S-MAX continues to offer space for up to seven passengers and the agility and driving pleasure of a smaller car, according to Ford.

When it arrives in Europe next year, the new S-MAX will debut Ford’s Adaptive Steering technology on the continent and will be the first Ford globally to feature Ford Dynamic LED Headlamps with Glare-Free Highbeam that maintain maximum illumination without distracting other road users. The MPV will also be available with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, Ford’s Pre-Collision Assist technology, the SYNC 2 voice-control connectivity system and a Hands-Free Tailgate, among other features.

The MPV’s design is obviously inspired by the S-MAX Concept, but something appears to have been “lost in translation,” as the production car doesn’t look as sharp and dynamic as the study. Still, it’s an attractive MPV in my book. The sporty theme continues inside with the digital instrument panel, sculpted center console and aluminum accents.

Available in five-seat and seven-seat configurations, the S-Max offers 32 seating and load-space combinations, as well as a segment-first Easy-Fold second and third row seats. The second and third rows of seats feature stadium style seating design and have thinner seat backs to provide more legroom, while the full-length panoramic glass roof enhances the impression of space

The all-new S-MAX also features the Easy-Fold system which enables each rear seat to be folded flat from a push-button control panel. Furthermore, Easy-Entry second row seats provide one touch access to third row seating.

The new S-MAX is offered with a 2.0-liter TDCi diesel engine available in three power versions: 120PS (118hp) with six-speed manual transmission and 150PS (148hp) or 180PS (178hp) with manual or Powershift dual-clutch automatic transmission. Ford says CO2 emissions for these engines are reduced by 7 percent.

Petrol engine options include the 160PS (158hp) 1.5-liter EcoBoost with manual transmission and 240PS (237hp) 2.0-liter EcoBoost with automatic transmission.
