Now that the Top Gear Christmas Special has aired and they’ve show their side of the story, it’s all well and good – apart from one thing. Was the  number plate-incident really a coincidence like everybody on the TG crew says it was, or was it an ill-conceived joke that got them in actual trouble?

I mean, it’s pretty hard for that number plate to have been present on that Porsche 928 under those circumstances. The fact that the official explanation was “it was a coincidence” is a bit insulting to the viewers’ intelligence, unless said viewer is five and believes any crap thrown his way. We should also point out that the special was peppered with remarks regarding the Falkland islands (and war) – this makes their side of the story even more unbelievable to me.

So, to clear things up, what do you think: was the number plate accidental or was it an intentional joke that was blown out of proportion and things turned violent. Or was it all planned, including the whole angry mob thing, by the crew to make this Christmas Special extra special and make it seem as if the trio of presenters was in danger for extra hype and ratings?

Oh, and the fact that they mentioned Butch Cassidy early on in the video further thwarts their credibility. He’s known for his daring escapes, and that’s exactly what the crew did at the end of the special – they daringly escaped, although it wasn’t “the law” that was chasing them, but an alleged group of protesters. It all just smells like it was scripted as such from the get-go.

A poll awaits below!
