It’s not a matter of if Ferrari will present a replacement for the open-top 458 Italia Spider, but when the Italians plan to do so. Our guess is next year.

For the time being, their focus is on the new 488 GTB that ushers in a twin-turbo V8 and will have its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

While it’s too early for Ferrari to talk about the spider version of the 488 GTB, which according to the brand’s naming tradition, could bear the 488 GTS designation, Photoshop manipulator X-Tomi has already given the mid-engine supercar a fitting haircut removing the top and adding a pair of buttresses behind the driver and passenger seats.

It’s very likely that Ferrari will retain the 458 Italia Spider’s folding aluminum lid that neatly slots underneath a panel that rises up ahead of the engine cover on the future 488 GTS.
