‘Tis the season to be jolly, but snow and ice can quickly turn your joy ride into a nightmare.

All drivers know, or at least should know, that there are certain safety checks that have to be made in winter. You don’t have to be a genius to figure out you should always clear all ice and snow from your car, either.

However, as long as one neglects to do those simple but necessary things, videos like this shall continue ending up in the web.

The footage was shot in the morning of December 30, on the Massachusetts I-495 and it involves a big chunk of ice flying from the SUV in front and hitting YouTube user Jeffrey Cote’s Saab 9-5.

Cote managed to pull it together and avoided an even bigger impact with other vehicles, but the ice broke the windshield, which thanks to the safety glass remained in one piece and didn’t shatter, bent the wiper arm and damaged the side mirror.
