Local car spotters got the chance to photograph a couple of R8 Spyders conducting hot-weather testing in Namibia.

Since last August our spies have snapped a few shots of the Audi’s new convertible supercar both on the road and at the Nurburgring, but this marks the first time it has been captured without camouflage.

Unfortunately, the images don’t reveal as much as we would have liked, but predictably enough, pretty much all previous renderings got it right – including those depicting the ventilated engine cover.

Performance-wise, the second generation of the R8 Spyder will be identical to the Coupe, so we should see the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 in two states of tune, with 540 PS and with 610 PS for the “base” and Plus respectively.

Neither of the two R8 Spyders caught on camera here seems to be the V10 Plus, since they are missing the fixed rear wing.
