Lamborghini CEO and President Stephan Winkelmann will be in charge of Quattro GmbH, an Audi AG subsidiary, which produces and distributes high-performance R and RS models.

With his experience from more than eleven years in charge of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann will be a key contributor to the further growth of Quattro GmbH“, commented Audi AG Chairman of the Board of Management, Rupert Stadler.

The 51-year old German succeeds Heinz Hollerweger, who is to retire after almost 40 years of work for Audi. Hollwerweger, who was born in Austria, started his career in Ingolstadt in 1977 and from 1997 until 2005 he was responsible for vehicle physics. During this period, numerous show cars went into series production, such as the Audi Q5 Custom Concept, which preceded the SQ5.

Along with his team, Hollerweger designed the R8 e-tron electric sports car for the 2011 Frankfurt Show and in April 2014, he became the Head of Quattro GmbH. His portfolio included the expansion of the RS family and the development of the new-gen R8.

Stephan Winkelmann joined Lamborghini in 2005 and signed off the Aventador and Huracan. Additionally, a number of special edition supercars like the Reventon and Sesto Elemento were launched during his tenure.

Under his leadership, the decision to add a third model in Lambo’s lineup, the Urus SUV, was also taken. Winkelmann’s success as the chief of the Sant’Agata Bolognese car brand made a record 3,245 deliveries.

The final model before he departs is the Centenario, which will celebrate the 100th birthday of the company’s founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini.

Winkelmann will be succeeded by Stefano Domenicali, who will become the new CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.
